Sano

The Minnesota Twins have done a great job in recent trades, drafts, and in the international market, and are now stocked with one of the best farm systems in all of baseball.

Below are our top 16 prospects with 2013 opening day age, position, and comments on each player. Below the top 16 is a small list of additional notable names. Enjoy.

Player Comments
1 Miguel Sano (19-3B) True 80 power on the 20-80 scouting scale. He shows an advanced approach at the plate and has excellent patience but strikes out a lot. Has plenty of arm for RF if he cannot prove to handle 3B. Only turns 20 this May. -Jonathan C. Mitchell
2 Byron Buxton (19-OF) Buxton has all five-tools including plus-plus speed, a plus arm, and potentially plus power. There are questions about the hit tool and he is far from polished but the ceiling is the limit. -JCM
3 Kyle Gibson (25-RHP) He may be limited as he comes back from Tommy John surgery but he is MLB-ready with his plus fastball/slider combo and command. -JCM
4 Oswaldo Arcia (21-OF) Uses the entire filed and has power to all fields. He has above-average offensive potential across the board at the plate and has enough arm to stay in right field. I see an All-Star when I see Arcia. -JCM
5 Alex Meyer (23-RHP) Meyer has number two starter potential with his tall frame, plus arm speed and velocity, above-average slider, and potentially above-average change up. He gets good sink on his fastball. Has some delivery and command issues, common for a man his height, and those issues may keep him from reaching his ceiling. -JCM
6 Aaron Hicks (23-OF) Has all the tools to be an All-Star but swing gets too long and he will strike out a lot. He shows great on-base abilities and his speed should be an asset on the base paths and in the field. Questions about his power translating to games, still. -JCM
7 Eddie Rosario(21-2B/OF) Plus hit tool and very athletic, making many believe his transition to second base can be a success. He is still raw, overall, but his ability to make consistent hard contact makes one believe he could be a .300 hitter. -JCM
8 Jose Berrios (18-RHP) He is armed with an above-average fastball/curveball combo and a promising change-up that has the chance to be above-average as well. Size and arm action are a concern. -JCM
9 Max Kepler (20-OF) Incredible athlete with room to add muscle and power to his 6’4″ frame. I doubt he can play center and his arm might not be good enough for right so his bat might have to carry him. -JCM
10 Trevor May (23-RHP) Has the frame and durability to eat plenty of innings and the potential to be a number two starter with his above-average arsenal but his control and command are hindering him. -JCM Trevor May Interview.
11 Luke Bard (22-RHP) Could move fast with his plus fastball/slider combo and be used in high-leverage situations out of the pen. -JCM
12 Travis Harrison (20-3B) There is some risk here as he profiles as below average at third but his bat could be good enough to profile anywhere and he crushes anything in the zone. Has plus power. -JCM
13 Mason Melotakis (21-LHP) He will move very fast in the pen with his upper-90s fastball from the left side but his frame and chance for three pitch mix make some believe he can start. I see a pen arm, though. -JCM
14 Niko Goodrum (21-SS) Shows ability to get on base and hit for above-average power. He has a plus arm but could out-grow short and if he moves to third, he would need his bat to carry more punch. If he sticks at short he could jump up prospect lists. -JCM
15 Jorge Polanco (19-2B) Has the chance for above-average tools across the board but we really need to see more of him before jumping the gun. Has good potential, though. -JCM
16 J.T. Chargois (22-RHP) Plus fastball with above-average breaking ball but command and control are a bit erratic. Could also move quickly in relief. -JCM

A few more: Joe Benson (OF), Hudson Boyd (RHP), Daniel Santana (MIF)
